commercial fishing picture Omniglow chemiluminescent products have found an exciting niche market in the commercial long line fishing industry.

Commercial fishermen use Omniglow SlimLite™, Flex-stick®, and Cyalume® lightsticks on their long lines to catch deep sea fish such as tuna and swordfish which are attracted to the light lightsticks. The lines used in long-lining may stretch for 80 miles and contain up to 3,000 hooks.

Omniglow markets its easy-to-activate, economically priced 4" and 6" SLIMLITE lightstick, plus premium CYALUME Lightsticks and FLEX-STICK Lures to commercial fishing fleets.

Omniglow commercial fishing products have a unique system that permits easy attachment of the lightstick to the mono filament line. They are also made to withstand the pressure of deep water fishing.

The commercial fishing market could expand to three or four times its current size over the next five years as ecologically harmful net fisheries become illegal and new filament technologies make long line fishing more efficient. As international commercial fishermen convert to long line fishing for more species of fish, more lightsticks will be used. To help fishermen make this conversion, Omniglow and its distributors are teaching commercial fishermen the techniques and benefits of long lining with Omniglow's complete line of lightstick products.

In its continuing search for new applications, Omniglow collaborates with universities and fish and game departments of several countries to research the attraction effect of various types of light on different fish species.
